MIT Academy Girls Basketball team remains undefeated in victory against John Henry High School

MIT Academy High School Girls faced off for the second time this season on Monday
against Richmond rivals John Henry High School. Their first game together was a nailbiter
at the beginning of the season, with MIT winning 10-9.
This time, John Henry High had the home game advantage with their boys’ basketball team
and cheerleading squad in attendance. In spite of the loud hometown crowd, MIT put up a tough
defense and won 22-6. Alissindra Junio was the team’s most resilient player, playing hot on offense
and defense. She led with 14 points, blocked multiple offensive shots, and stole the ball seven times,
with many of her steals leading to baskets.
Juliana Contreras followed behind Junio on defense. She was hot on guarding the opposing team’s advances,
maneuvering fast with the ball and sticking close on her man-to-man defense. The score was 14-2 at halftime.
John Henry spent the break recuperating and rethinking their strategy against MIT. With encouragement from
John Henry’s cheerleading squad, they returned to play with more confidence than in the previous rounds.
By the fourth quarter, they had scored 4 more points overall. However, Junio and Datiles conquered the third quarter
with 6 points between them, solidifying MIT’s win 22-6 against John Henry. This victory comes only 3 days after the
MIT Academy Varsity Girls Basketball team defeated LPS Richmond 25-14 last Friday in Vallejo. The team will try to stay
undefeated this Wednesday when they play against Lighthouse Community Charter High School, also at Willie Keyes
Recreation Center in Oakland.
